Everyone who takes pictures has a few that they are especially proud of and some of these appeal to other people as well.
These are the pictures you should enter in photo contests; but only, in my opinion, those without an entry fee. Contests owners should make their money off of advertising and not from contestants, without whom there wouldn't be any contests.
With summer in full swing there should be plenty of picture taking opportunities whether you travel or not.
Here's a digital photo contest that is family vacation oriented but from what I can see almost any subject will do.
