The much-anticipated Wi-Fi-on-a-memory-card for digital cameras was released today by Silicon Valley start-up Eye-Fi. (Ordinarily, I'd put a link here, but this link that the company is publicizing for itself just produces WordPress errors for me. Hopefully, Eye-Fi's card works better than its Web hosting service.)

The company says in a statement, that the $100 two-gigabyte Wi-Fi-enabled card works with any digital camera that takes SD media. After a simple set-up process, the company boasts, shutterbugs will be able to access the nearest wireless network and send their photos to their local computer-whether it be a PC or Mac-or to an online photo post.
Some 17 photo destinations announced today that they're onboard with Eye-Fi. Those sites include Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly, Wal-Mart, Snapfish, Photobucket, Facebook, Webshots, Picasa Web Albums, SmugMug, Flickr, Fotki, TypePad, VOX, dotPhoto, Phanfare, Sharpcast and Gallery.
