Tips for live music / concert photography
I did a bit of gig photography back in the day - mostly on my crappy (by today's standard - in '98 is was state of the art) old fuji-brick. The big thing I learned straight off is to not bother with the flash. With the camera I was using at the time, getting decent shots was a real effort
I managed to get some moderately good shots from it all - but looking back, there's only one shot that really stands out as a keeper. Beside Daniel from Boudist.com, I'm a rank amateur...
It's a skill I'd quite like to work up, however - definitely an area that would be very rewarding to work in for a music fan with a photographic bent.

I suppose one would get more for less if one were able to take great shots and listen to great music all for the price of just one ticket

I can only agree to that. Flash units are useless at concerts. I actually lost one one time - so I guess I'm biased
