Time's best photos of 2005 » I Like Cameras:
The issue's not out yet, but there's a website you can go to in the meantime.
One of the great challenges of Photography is taking a static image that implies motion, shows emotion, something that tells a story in a single frame. Not just any story, but the right story. Like anything taken out of context, it can be easy to misrepresent the story (deliberately or accidentally) - we need to make sure that the story we're telling is reasonably consistent across our audience.
These photos do this.
I'm not a photo journalist - I don't really have any great motivation to be one - but I can appreciate great photography when I see it.

You have a point. I am a journalist and one of the things I loved most in my major subjects in college is photojournalism. I agree to the things you said on looking at a good shot. We share the same passion, and that is seeing art in photos. I guess, it is a human nature to feel appreciation on pictures when we see the beauty in it.
