Hasselblad announces the H2D-39 the world's first 39 megapixel DSLR camera | Digital Camera Websites: Digital Photography News:
The linked article calls it a DSLR - but I don't think that's technically quite right. However, I'm not enough of an expert to argue my case there, so I'm hoping that someone will stand up in the comments and settle this, once and for all.
Anyhoo... I try not to be a megapixel whore - it's all too easy to be seduced by a big number - but 39 megapixels? WOW! I mean, my little (and now, I do mean little) Nikon D70 takes 6.1 Megapixel images - and even they blow up to 10"x15" really nicely.
OK, probably not trying hard enough.
Along with the camera itself, there's a range of digital backs that will fit onto view cameras using the H-system interface plate - right there, I'm assuming that Hasselblad experts will know what I'm talking about, 'cos I really don't have a clue.
Of course, if someone at Hasselblad wants to lend me one of these for a while, so I could have a clue, I wouldn't say no... (that's a hint guys, and not a very subtle one).
Three modes of operation - tethered: plugged into a computer nearby, remote: with a local compact flash card, and semi-remote: using a firewire connected hard drive. I really like that last option. Really. That's some good thinking, right there.
Like other Hasselblad digitals, these cameras use Adobes DNG files instead of some nasty closed sources proprietary RAW format. Another good move by the industry leader - may the rest follow along some time soon.
So. Hasselblad. My birthday's coming up soon, you know...
