The proof is in the picture

The DEMO show is like speed dating for venture capitalists. For 17 years now, nascent businesses have been parading before the journalists and investors in its audience hoping to sell them the next big thing in six minutes. One interesting sell at the show held this week in San Diego was something called Point & Proof from CodaSystem in Paris, France. The product is software designed to run on cell phones with digital cameras. After shooting a photo with your camera, Point & Proof will time stamp it, georeference it (if your mobile device has GPS or if your carrier offers GSM georeferencing), and send it to a secure server where it can be stored for up to a year. CodaSystems sees the process as a way to add integrity to digital images-a handy thing to have, especially in court cases. A demo version of the program is available for free from the Point & Shoot Web site. It allows you to archive up to five photos for a month.
