The Canon 30D vs 20D – what's the difference?:
While my internal Nikon bigot's shouting "who cares? They're Canon!" I fight him down to bring this to you. See the sacrifices I make?
Hell, some of my best friends are Canon fans (the poor, deluded fools).
"First, it helps to realize how similar these two cameras are:
- They both have the same number of megapixels and the same digital sensor.
- They are equally responsive, and both feature a 9-point autofocus system.
- They use the same batteries and the same memory cards.
- There's no difference in weight or in size.
Seems like the 30D is the same as the 20D with a different name.
Almost."
OK, so, that's how they're the same, but how are they different? That's what the clicky-link up the top is for. Go, click it.

I have a 10D and to be honest, I’m pretty happy with it, although everyone adviced me to take the 20d. It became a bit ridiculous recently. 10 is a decent model. It has everything you need. Then why such a price difference between something which does not really have many more features?

Well, one is more expensive, and this is important. When you have to choose between two similar models you’ll choose the cheapest on for sure.

The 30D is better than the 20D, but mainly in the operational aspects. Stuff like larger buffer sizes, and adjustable fps (5 or 3) on the 30D. If those don’t appeal to the potential buyer, get the 20D, save the money and use that towards better lenses. Canon made a wise decision to continue manufacturing the 20D, thus giving more options to the market. I have the Canon Powershot 630A and was thinking of upgrading. Thanks for the information!
