Solid state storage sultan SanDisk did its best to grab folks attention at the PhotoPlus 2007 International Conference & Expo held this week in New York City by introducing a new high-performance SD memory card and announcing two award wins from photo magazines.

SanDisk intros card, wins awards

The new Extreme III memory card ($179.99) has a mammoth capacity of eight gigabytes and takes advantage of the high performance specs for the SDHC format. Many cameras are entering the market now that take advantage of that format, which is designed to accommodate two gigabytes or more of memory and operate at speeds of six megabytes per second or better. With more and more digital cameras boosting their megapixel count, as well as the quality of their video features, these high performance cards are becoming a must have item for shutterbugs of every Stripe.

In addition to its new card announcement, SanDisk revealed that two of its products have been picked for distinction by a pair of photography magazines. Its 16 gigabyte CompactFlash card won an editor's choice award from American Photo Magazine and its Extreme III line of cards was ranked "favorite memory card" among the readers of Studio Photography magazine.
