A great collection of tips and tricks to get the best out of Apple iPhoto, from the folk over at MacZealot.
One of the (many) tasks on my todo list, is to clear out my iPhoto - when I first got my mac, I just dumped all my images into it - about 6,000 of them - and iPhoto doesn't handle
that overly well. I need to strip them all out, and only store the ones want to keep in it (which is something I should have been doing all along). When I reload them, I also need to make better use of the tagging functionality, so I can find images a lot better.
iPhoto will never really cut it as a professional image management tool - these days, I'll regularly take 3 or 400 shots in a weekend, and given my current (self inflicted) lack of professional image management software, I'm relying on a directory structure based system. iPhoto just can't handle that sort of volume, at least not on my little powerbook.
For me, it's probably best used to store those photos that I'm most proud of, and photos of people or events or places that I really want to keep handy. Instead of using it as my archive for every photo I've ever taken, use it for the features that I want to show off. I guess, in old-school photos-on-paper terms, I shout use it as my photo album rather than the carton of photos under my bed.
