Impact of digital photography craze on culture not yet known, one expert thinks it could mean 'dark age'

It's almost tempting to write that article off as luddite scare mongering - but it is something that we need to keep in mind.

It's all well and good to archive our images to CD or DVD - but we need to also be prepared to migrate those archives in the future, once that technology has been replaced.

It's only 10 years ago that I was still storing documents on 3.5" floppy disks - now, I'd be hard pressed to lay my hands on a floppy drive of any sort.

It's not only being prepared to move your archives - it's being aware of where they all are. Putting your CDs of digital photos in a shoebox in the attic just won't cut it, I'm afraid.

And remember - make more than one copy, and store the copies in different places if you can.
