This is how things look right now at the Ippolito Homestead, so for those of you who may think that Christmas isn't celebrated in the desert here's a bit of proof.
I took this picture using the "rear curtain," "slow sync" flash mode that was discussed here. You can see that the flash illuminated the subject and the "slow sync" mode allowed the fire to be recorded properly and not washed out by the flash. Again, you can use this mode indoors, when appropriate, or outdoors at night.
Here's an excellent overview of flash functions and modes that digital cameras offer. There are also some excellent tops for better flash photography.
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and for those of you who are neutral to it, or observe a different Holiday, have a great time celebrating your special day, or just doing whatever non-holiday thing it is that you're doing today.
