It seems like monster zooms are catching on among digital camera makers. Panasonic has announced a new model, the Lumix DMC-FZ18 ($399.95), with an 18x optical zoom that's the 35mm equivalent of a 28mm-504mm zoom. The unit has Panasonic's own flavor of image stabilization that combines optical image stabilization with intelligent ISO control to boost the camera's shutter speed to offset potential camera shake in low light situations and blurring when subjects are moving. The company has also incorporated its Intelligent Auto Mode into the model which includes face detection, intelligent scene selection and continuous auto focus. The camera is expected to be in stores next month.
