Fujifilm is best known for its valiant efforts to go toe to toe with Kodak during the days when film was king. With the rapid movement of photography to a digital world, though, the Japanese film maker hasn't been able to get the kind of traction that its old rival Kodak has been able to muster. It's wallowing in seventh place among worldwide digital camera makers and for a year now has been conducting a painful restructuring of its operations. Last year alone it axed 5000 jobs or seven percent of its global workforce. Today, the world's second largest maker of film for photography announced it was scrapping what remains of its digital camera production capacity in Japan and moving it to China. Nevertheless, the company remains optimistic about its current fiscal year digital camera sales
predicting an increase of 21 percent over the prior year, to 8 million from 6.6 million.Permalink: Fuji finishes bolt to China
