Although it isn't absolutely necessary, post processing of your digital photo files allows you to fine tune and customize your images, so it's important for digital photographers to learn how to use graphics programs.

The references in this posting pertain, in general, to Adobe Photoshop products, however, the lessons learned can be used with virtually any graphics programs.

Many people find the thought of using digital photo graphics programs daunting but most of the features that amateurs will use are intuitive and easy to learn. Remember too that any change you make can quickly be undone and an alternative tried.

Please keep your original files intact and unaltered, in a separate folder, so you can always start fresh if you screw something up.

Make copies of the files you want to manipulate, assign an additional symbol or word, such as "copy", to the file, and put them in a different, working, folder.

What I like about this series of digital photo graphics editing tutorials is that they concentrate on the most commonly used tools.

This is another great site with information on the use of digital photo graphics programs.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.

  • I agree, trying to learn how to post process your digital photos can be a nightmare. I’m still earning and constantly finding material online. If you look around you will be able to find a great deal of information.
