If you take photographs strictly for yourself and don't care what other people think of them then entering your shots in contests probably doesn't interest you.
But, maybe you do want to know what others think of your work, even if they are only for yourself, so enter a contest for digital photographs and show the world your work.
Here's a great contest to start off with, Ben Stark's Digital Days Photo contest.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.
