Cameras
by John Mello on August 26, 2007

You never know where a far-out tech idea will be birthed. Scott Adams of Dilbert fame, for example, cooked up a lulu this weekend. He wrote in his blog that he'd like to see a digital camera with built-in GPS. When a shutterbug uploads his photos to his computer, they would automatically be assigned to a geographical location on a scrapbook page that looks like a map. Along with the camera, the photographer could have a special credit card that would feed information to the scrapbook software, which would also have a face recognition feature. Using the credit card information and the face identification feature, the scrapbook would be able to write useful captions for its photos. People in pics would be automatically identified, as well as where and when an image was captured. Scott didn't mention anything about security, but a scrapbook like this would be a hacker's dream and the spooks at the department of Homeland security will be salivating like a dog with rabies when they hear about it.
