Over the course of time names, and references to "things" in general, can change in meaning or become corrupted by constant misuse or mispronunciation.
For example, "bad" used to mean "not good", and it still does, except when it is used to describe something very good and desirable, such as a particularly appealing digital camera.
Anyway, to avoid any confusion about what a digital camera's bits and pieces and functions should be called check out this interesting and informative tutorial about digital camera fundamentals.
Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.
