Why would anyone want to deliberately cause a condition, in this case, "lens flare", something that camera and lens manufacturers work hard to eliminate?
The answer is: when the effect improves the picture.
These days, because of lens coatings and the use of exotic glass ingredients, it's pretty hard to induce lens flare without shooting directly into the sun, or a strong reflection.
Sometimes though, when it does happen, the effect is actually pleasing due to the drama it creates. So if lens flare can be good at times how do we go about causing it?
Lens flare is cause by light bouncing off the internal elements of a lens and you can learn how to both avoid and induce digital camera lens flare.
Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.
