Creating a killer composition | DSLRBlog:
With a bit of shoe work and some imagination any location can go from "good" to "whoooah!", just take the extra time, and don't listen to the family members shouting "oh come on how long is this going to take"!
The same shot you've seen hundreds of times before is the easy shot. Everyone takes it, standing in the most obvious place.
Move. Go somewhere else. Go closer, go further away. Change lens. Capture a detail. Hold the camera upside down, if you have to. Just do something different. Sure, take the stock standard photo as well - you know that one's going to work. But then take the weird ones, the ones that might not work, but if they do, then Wow!
