Canon's TX1 digital camera is one of those in between products that is essentially a digital still camera with better than average video capabilities.

The design of this camera is interesting in that it has a swing out LCD view screen like a camcorder; yet, the overall form factor is that of a compact digital still camera.

While not perfect, the Canon TX1 delivers excellent still digital performance, while enabling the occasional videographer to achieve acceptable results without the need to carry a separate piece of gear.

The drawback is that the video files are large and will require sizable and fast memory cards, but, as I said, this is a great choice for the occasional video maker.

Anyone whose main interest is video is going to have a dedicated camcorder anyway; but for someone on a budget, and who likes to travel light, this device may be the answer.

I've seen this camera listed at well under 400 bucks online and that will no doubt go down shortly.

Here's a thorough review and sample pictures.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.
