Bicycling And Digital Photography

Combining two or more of your hobbies or interests can more than double your fun.

These days, I'm sorry to say, the only two things I seem to be able to engage in simultaneously is watching TV while eating. But years ago I always tried to make any kind of an activity an opportunity to do something else at the same time.

How about rock hounding while out for a walk in the forest while "plinking" at targets of opportunity, usually stubs of small dead branches on fallen trees, with a .22 cal rifle or handgun, I've done that.

Well, for digital photographers, the opportunities to engage in photography are endless.

It's not a matter of simply bringing a camera along to "document an event; it's more a matter of photographing something through the eyes a person who is usually a participant.

For example, consider giving Tiger Woods a camera and having him take pictures at a golf tournament. I'll bet he would see the action differently than me, a non-golfer.

Theoretically, his pictures should be better, at least composition wise, if not technically, because he should know just what the small details of the game are that would make a picture more intimate and interesting.

Here's a good example by a digital photographer and bicycling fanatic.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.

  • You are very right. I spent alot of time hunting. Now I hunt with my camera.

The time spent hunting has taught me field craft that can now be used to photograph animals and birds to great effect.

Using your knowledge to capture that great photo is so important be you a surfer, car sales person or house wife. use your knowledge to capture the image how you see it!!
