macosXrumors.com: Apple to release a photo retouching application
OK, the reality is that it won't be a photoshop
killer - if anything, they'll be targeting the market between Photoshop and iPhoto - something more for your enthusiastic amateur/low end pro (you know, given that that's about where I fit, I can't really tell if this is me being realistic, or wishful).
Photoshop is too embedded in its users workflows for a new product to make any serious inroads in its market share anywhere within the next 3 generations of product - say, 4-5 years. As much as I like Apple, I just don't think they can produce anything to beat Photoshop in the eyes of Photoshop users.
What I can see is an application with the simplicity of Pages (when compared to MS Word) - something that lets you have control, makes it easy to get done what you want to get done, and doesn't get in your way too much.
