Aperture: Designed for Professional Photographers
Filed in archive Announcement , OS X , Photoshop , Software by Andrew Garrett on October 20, 2005

So, I talked about this a couple of days ago - and I think I was both right and wrong.
If I'm understanding things right, it's not a Photoshop killer - instead, it's focused towards photographers
, and photo manipulation, while Photoshop is a more general purpose graphics package (that has a ton of great features that photographers can make good use of). I was wrong about it being aimed at the mid-range part of the market - it's definitely targeting the professional and want-to-be-professional end.
I haven't gone into any great depth on the site yet - but what I've seen indicates that it includes image management as well as manipulation (and really, that's the Apple Way), automated backup systems, integrated album building (both print and web albums of course), advanced keyword/tagging - the list goes on and on and on.
I'm going to try and be restrained about this - I'll try and wait for the reviews to come out, read them, then make my call. Unless, of course, I can talk my local Apple distributor into sending me a review copy - then I can make my call-to-buy a bit sooner.
