Aperture 1.1 review - A Brief History of Aperture:

"From the outright broken things like 8-bit TIFF export and EXIF data stripping on output to the Zen take on a manual (there is no documentation"), everything about Aperture 1.0 pointed to an unrealistic deadline and a QA department with their monitors off. While the EXIF bug was fixed with the OS X 10.4.6 update, the problems I saw in Aperture 1.0 were sadly only the tip of the iceberglinks and eventually users' different workflows exposed numerous additional flaws, some nastier than others. After inconsistent responses to some angry customers who wanted their money back, the whole thing got even uglier."

I haven't yet had the opportunity to decide whether or not I'm a fan of aperture - I'm definitely prepared to be, but for a variety of reasons, I haven't made the leap yet. First amongst them, is that I'm still running on OS X 10.3, since Apple didn't give me enough reason to upgrade to 10.4. Second is that it was a version 1.0 apple product, and while I'm not a long term Apple fan, I'm sufficiently wary of *any* vendor's version 1 product that I tend to steer clear until the worst of the bugs are out. Thirdly, I'm only running on a 1.67GHz G4 powered powerbook, and it's sluggish enough with Apple Eyecandy Overhead. Last, but not least, as I'm getting married a little later this year, my budget for things like software and new computers have been seriously curtailed. Oh, and Apple (New Zealand) never followed through with the offered review copy.

Anyhow - Ars presents a reasonably (!!) detailed review of the changes in Aperture 1.1 ( just a simple little 23 pages). I haven't read through it all yet, since I thought it was worth sharing with you all, but this looks like being fairly comprehensive coverage, and if, like me, you're yet to take the Aperture plunge, this might just help you over the edge.

Hmm, perhaps I should avoid reading it for a few weeks...
