"PC World" is one of the most respected computers magazines in the world; and it goes without saying that their editor's expertise with other digital devices extends well beyond computers.
Dave Johnson starts you off with several very different tips on how to expand the uses for your digital camera. Notice that there are active links to some of his "how to" articles within this hints.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.
